Google Doodle Celebrates German Dr. Robert Koch - Founder of Modern Bacteriology

Google Doodle Celebrates The German Doctor Robert Koch

Today, Google pays tribute to the historic anniversary of 'Dr Robert Heinrich Hermann Koch' with Google Doodle, which shows the original means by which he isolated bacterial cells, slices of potato.

He was known as to identify the specific causative agents of tuberculosis, cholera and anthrax, while providing experimental support for the concept of infectious disease, Koch lived in the mid-nineteenth century.

Another famous tribute illustrated in Google Doodle is the famous Petri dish, developed by "Dr Koch's" assistant, "Julius Richard Petri".

"Dr Robert Koch" was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1905 (for his research and findings in relation to tuberculosis).

> Rober Koch Biography:

"Dr Robert Koch" was born in "Clausthal in Hannover, Germany", on December 11, 1843.

It was only at the age of five and he began to show signs of brilliance.

At this age, "Dr Koch" announced to his parents that he himself learned to read with the help of newspapers.

According to a profile published in the Journal of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, " Dr Robert Koch" initially planned to be a merchant, but later was authorized to pursue his own desire, which was to study medicine.

In April 1862, at the age of 18, he enrolled in the University of Göttingen and devoted himself to the study of mathematics, physics and botany.

The physiologist, Meissner, and the pathologist, Henle have had a special influence on him during his stay here.

In 1876, at the age of 33, the "Dr Robert Koch" was engaged in a private practice in Bomst in Wollstein, a town of 4000 inhabitants, and also occupied the position of Kreisphysikus, a position roughly equivalent to that of a part-time doctor.

It was a more unfavourable position to carry out research, but "Dr Koch" worked the moment he could avoid his other tasks, with very limited equipment, without help, isolated from other researchers and without library facilities

It was in these conditions that he managed to elaborate the life story of the anthrax bacillus.

According to the British Medical Journal, the scientific discovery of "Dr Robert Koch" was founded by this discovery.

But he continued to combine general practice and bacteriological research until 1880, when he was called to the Kaiserlich Gesundheitsamt in Berlin.

In Berlin, he had the right time and equipment for research.

It was in the middle of a circle of other brilliant researchers, including Friedrich Loeffler and George Theodor August Gaffky.

> Rober Koch Discoveries:

In these favorable atmospheres, “Dr. Koch” became one of the leaders in the rapid advancement of the new science of bacteriology.

In 1882, says BMJ, he discovered the bacillus of tuberculosis, perhaps the main discovery of his career.

The same “Dr Robert Koch” considered his research on tuberculosis as the most important part of his work.

In 1883 Robert Koch was sent to Egypt and India to study cholera and succeeded in proving that the coma bacillus was the causal agent.

In 1890 he created a deep sense by declaring, he had discovered substances that would block the growth of the tuberculosis bacillus, not only in the tubes, but also in the living body.

"Since he was a child he has a great desire to travel and in the last fifteen years of his life he has been able to satisfy this passion to the maximum.

Almost half of his time spent in the tropical centers of the disease.

A tropical country in Africa and Asia, which examined the diseases of both animals and humans, was a massive surprise at the International Tuberculosis Congress in London in 1901 to announce that human and bovine tuberculosis were separate forms and that bovine tuberculosis was practically harmless.

This conclusion led to a long controversy, and although the distinction between the two strains is now generally accepted, it is known the belief that the bovine is not harmful to humans is wrong.

"Robert Koch" did not believe there was a connection between TB in humans and animals, but it was not entirely correct," says nobelprize.org.

In 1904, Koch retired from the position of director of the Institute of Infectious Diseases, a position he held for thirteen years.

He continued to work, however, and in 1906 he went to East Africa to investigate sleeping sickness.

He died in 1910 at the age of 67.

> Rober Koch Postulates:

Four criteria established by Robert Koch to identify the "etiologic agent" of a particular disease, these include:

the microorganism or other pathogens must be present in all cases of the disease.

The pathogen can be isolated from the sick host and cultivated in pure culture.

The simple narration of Koch's main discoveries indicates better than anything else the dominant part he has interpreted in the development of bacteriology.

"The characteristics of Koch were those necessary for the successful researcher, patience, strong will and great persistence."

The first part of his career was marked by results so clear and clear in all his published articles that the scientific world was ready to accept the Attribute the expected effects of the use of tuberculin.

His personality was modest, his diction, in a conversation, simple, clear and convincing ", wrote HC Ernst in an article of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.

It is worth analyzing the life of Robert Koch and his contribution to medicine, especially when it comes to his role in the production of research which shows that diseases such as anthrax, tuberculosis and cholera are caused by germs.
